How do we get children to accept their hair?
Little children are sensitive, full of love and admiration for others and constantly seeking approval from us; the important people in their lives. When behind the chair, I see so many young curlies who disapprove of their curls. They look at me with longing eyes wondering if I can straighten their hair to look flat like the girls at school. After much deliberation we decide on what to do and it usually ends with straight, swangin’ hair! Every now and again I get one who loves her curls and wants to keep them defined and full. Our salon is full of curl fanatics; so naturally we collectively rejoice at these were moments.
After much ponder, I believe the best thing we can do to help the baby curls is to love… ourselves. That will help our little ones to embrace themselves. Over the years we have tried to help our loved one’s confidence by telling them how wonderful and beautiful they are. But if they see us rejecting us, they will naturally follow suit.
First, to thine own self be true… Go forth and change the world, by loving YOU.
